Healing Hearts and Minds: Concordia Children’s Services Resumes Inspiring Bible Study Program for Urban Poor Children

As the limitations imposed by the pandemic gradually diminish, Concordia Children’s Services eagerly embraces the opportunity to bring together its children’s beneficiaries once again. Every second weekend of the month, these 110 urban poor children gather with anticipation to partake in the enriching bible study sessions led by Pastor Rolli, from The Lutheran Church of the Philippines. Over the course of six sessions, a multitude of activities, discussions, and personal reflections have unfolded, leaving a profound impact on the lives of these children. These bible study sessions are in collaboration with the Philippine Lutheran Church. The sessions offer a space for reflection, introspection, and the exploration of their personal faith. This aspect of their education sponsorship goes beyond the classroom, enabling the children to develop a sense of purpose, inner resilience, and moral values.

At the core of these gatherings is the study of the Bible, wherein the children engage in kamustahan (exchange of well-being), verse memorization, in-depth discussions, and daily devotions recorded in their personal diaries. The effects have been transformative. Hazel, an eighteen-year-old high school student who has been attending these sessions since elementary school, shared, “The Bible study has been instrumental in my personal growth. I’ve learned to apply the teachings of the Lord, reflect on my own misdeeds, seek forgiveness, and make every action and decision align with God’s teachings.”

Beyond personal growth, the Bible study program has fostered a sense of camaraderie and support among the children. Jayvee, a nineteen-year-old participant, expressed how approaching the “Kuyas” (older brothers) and Ms. Hazel for guidance during challenging times became a cherished aspect of these gatherings. The shared understanding of biblical teachings and the wisdom found in scripture have become invaluable sources of comfort and guidance for these young individuals.

The resumption of the Bible study program has brought immeasurable joy and inspiration to the hearts and minds of these urban poor children. It serves as a reminder of their inner strength, resilience, and the transformative power of faith.

Gathering not only to deepen their understanding of the Scriptures but also to form genuine connections with peers who share their journey has become a beacon of hope amidst life’s trials. While understanding that education encompasses more than just academic knowledge, Concordia endeavors to foster holistic growth for these children by nurturing the minds, spirits, and hearts of urban poor children. CCS creates a ripple effect that empowers generations to come. The resumption of the bible study program is a testament to their unwavering dedication and commitment to making a difference in the lives of these children. As Concordia stays true to its mission, paves the way for a brighter and more inclusive future, one child at a time.
