A Shot at a Brighter Future: Vaccination Program for Community and Orphaned Children

Concordia Children’s Services has had a long history of caring for orphaned and underprivileged children and youth. Recently, Concordia Home appealed to the community to safeguard the health of our children this year 2023. With God’s grace, the Ateneo School of Medicine and Public Health (ASMPH) and the University of Santo Thomas Pediatric Doctors collaborated to arrange a vaccination and medical mission. This powerful initiative had two phases, both of which focused on improving the lives of our orphaned children and sponsored youth from urban poor communities in Sta. Mesa.

UST Pediatrics Doctors Medical Mission

The first phase of the project consisted of a medical mission led by esteemed doctors from the UST Faculty of Medicine and Surgery Department of Pediatrics. They conducted comprehensive wellness check-ups on 35 sponsored urban poor children and 24 orphaned children. These check-ups included vital health assessments and screenings to ensure the children’s overall well-being. Moreover, the UST Pediatric doctors administered flu vaccinations providing them with an added layer of protection during the upcoming flu season in the Philippines. This compassionate act has significantly contributed to safeguarding the health of vulnerable children.

ASMPH Tugon Vaccination Campaign

The second part of the vaccination drive was spearheaded by the ASMPH Tugon Volunteers. Their campaign focused on educating urban poor children about the importance of vaccinations while simultaneously conducting wellness check-ups for 50 urban poor children. By actively engaging with the children and their families, the volunteers created awareness about preventive healthcare measures and dispelled misconceptions surrounding vaccines. This approach not only ensured that the children received the necessary vaccinations but also empowered them with the knowledge to make informed decisions about their health. Through their dedication and expertise, the ASMPH Tugon Volunteers vaccinated over 50 urban poor children, leaving a lasting impact on the community’s health.

Bridging Communities through partnerships

Through the collaboration with these generous organizations, Concordia has not only made a significant stride towards constructing a safer and healthier community but has also exemplified the transformative power of partnerships in tackling healthcare disparities and uplifting the lives of marginalized children. This successful vaccination drive serves as a testament to the profound impact that collective efforts can have on community well-being.

Expanding our network of community-serving partnerships is a crucial cornerstone for fostering community building and sustainable development. Concordia eagerly anticipates the opportunity to forge additional collaborations with organizations that share our vision of empowering and assisting our communities. Together, we can create a brighter future and extend a helping hand to those in need.
